Lieutenant General Larry R. Jordan

Lieutenant General Larry R. Jordan is a native of Kansas City, Missouri. He was commissioned as an Armor Officer in 1968 following graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point. During over 33 years of service, he has been assigned in a variety of command and staff positions, including command at company, battalion, brigade, and installation levels. He also served with Headquarters, US Army Europe, and in the Pentagon with both the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans, Department of the Army, and the Joint Staff. His overseas assignments include duty in Germany, the Republic of Vietnam, and Kuwait-Iraq-Saudi Arabia.

Recent assignments include Deputy Commanding General, United States Army, Europe and Seventh Army; The Inspector General, United States Army; Commanding General, US Army Armor Center and Fort Knox; Assistant Commandant, US Army Armor School; and Assistant Division Commander, 3rd Armored Division, and later, 1st Armored Division. He was also Chief of Staff, 1st Armored Division, and Commander 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division. Since October 2001 he has served as Deputy Commanding General/Chief of Staff, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command.

General Jordan is a graduate of the United States Army Armor School, the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, the United States Army Command and Staff College, and the National War College. He attended the Ranger and Airborne Courses, the Harvard Program in National and International Security Management, and holds a Masters Degree in History from Indiana University. His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He has also been awarded the Armor Association's Order of St. George and the Field Artillery Association's Order of St. Barbara.

He was the speaker at the Chief of Armor Luncheon which closed the 2003 Armor Conference from 1200-1345 on Thursday, May 22nd 2003.

He had been a frequent superior and mentor to Chief of Armor MG Tucker. When called for advice, he'd say "well, if you do this then you'll have these results and problems, whereas if you do that you'll have those results and problems. Figure out where you want to go, then think about which path is more likely to get you there." Had been a scout, but got "ambushed" at the luncheon.
